The Bavarian eco-area register includes compensation and replacement areas for interventions in nature and the landscape as well as eco-account areas (compensation register) and other ecologically significant areas.
It is maintained and continuously updated by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment. It comprises
- a compensation register consisting of
- Areas purchased for nature conservation purposes (e.g. biotope network, bog renaturation),
- areas from land consolidation procedures with ecological or landscape conservation measures.
An overview of the areas and general data are publicly available on the LfU website:

The data in the compensation register supports the responsible authorities in implementing the impact regulation. Among other things, the areas serve as valuable building blocks in ecological network projects.
Notification of compensation and replacement areas
The approval authorities (e.g. governments, district offices, offices for rural development, offices for food, agriculture and forestry, mining authorities, Federal Railway Authority) and municipalities are responsible for the notification of designated compensation and replacement areas for interventions in nature and the landscape. They can commission a third party with the notification.

Compensation and replacement areas with the associated measures must be reported to the eco-area register in good time by the approval authorities or municipalities, i.e. immediately after the decision has been issued or when the development plan becomes legally binding. This also applies to compensation and replacement areas that are deducted from eco-accounts.
