Procedure details

Purpose

To increase the number of presentation opportunities in Bavaria for artists working in Bavaria, funding can be applied for for collective exhibitions.

Object

Funding is available for collective exhibitions in which at least five professional living artists are involved. The majority of the participating artists must be active in Bavaria. Professionalism is deemed to exist if proof can be provided of completed artistic training or at least three years of exhibition activity.

Eligible costs

The costs incurred in carrying out the project are eligible for funding:

  • Personnel and material expenses incurred in direct connection with the project (in particular consumables, expenses for set-up work, transportation expenses, proven travel expenses as well as accommodation and catering costs for the artists for work on site in accordance with the BayRKG). Materials for works of art themselves are not eligible for funding, even if the works are created specifically for the project on site.
  • Proportions of total annual expenditure (e.g. personnel, premises and operating expenses) can be recognized provided they can be clearly documented and justified and there is a clear link to the project (e.g. personnel expenses: Proof of salary, proof of working hours contributed to the project, comprehensible calculation of the proportion of overhead costs attributable to the exhibition). The invoicing of lump sums is generally not permitted.
  • Expenses for vernissage and finissage (catering, musical accompaniment), provided they do not exceed 10% of the total expenditure of the project, as well as expenses for a supporting program (art education, special events, performances, etc.), provided they also do not exceed 10% of the total expenditure of the project. Higher expenditure may be approved for a special educational program or for project-related lectures and discussion events.
  • Loan fees for the provision of works of art, provided that these expenses are actually paid. Loan fees may also be paid for works that are owned by the creators. The purchase or creation of works of art is not eligible for funding.
  • Reasonable expense allowances for artists for work on site (e.g. assembly and dismantling, supervision, presentation, moderation), provided these are actually paid, are in reasonable proportion to the actual time spent and do not serve to create a work of art.
  • Capital expenditure, prizes, gifts to artists and communal management work are not eligible for funding. If, for economic reasons, a purchase is preferable to the loan of an object, the expenses incurred for this are eligible for funding up to a maximum of the loan fee comparatively incurred for the project.

Type and amount

The funding is granted as a subsidy.
The type of funding is project funding.
The funding period covers the entire duration of the project.

Fixed-amount funding between € 5,000.00 and € 80,000.00

Funding can be applied for by exhibitors organized in binding structures (in particular clubs, associations, municipalities) that have at least three years of exhibition experience and do not intend to make a profit. The Berufsverband Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler Landesverband Bayern (BBK Landesverband) submits a collective application for the projects of its regional associations.

The project must also fulfill the following requirements:

  • The project must focus on the visual arts.
  • The artistic concept must be clearly in the foreground, but the possibility of acquiring works of art in principle does not call eligibility into question
  • The project is of supra-regional importance. Indications of the supra-regional nature of the project are, for example, grants from the county and/or the district.

Exclusion criteria:

Applications by natural persons and partnerships are excluded.

  • Required document/s
    • Application with declaration that the project has not yet begun: Informally or using sample 1a of the VV to Art. 44 BayHO.
    • Project description: This applies in particular to the presentation of the exhibition concept.
    • List of participating artists: Please state the respective place of work and confirm their professionalism.
    • Detailed, balanced budget broken down into income and expenditure: Please explain the amounts involved (e.g. travel costs € 500 for 10 trips within Bavaria).

After the application deadline, all applications are reviewed. The available funds are allocated to the applications submitted by the deadline. The grant notification is issued as soon as the distribution has been approved and the necessary funds are available.

Early start of measures: possible from receipt of application

There are no costs.

The application must be submitted by 01.01.2024 or 01.01. of the respective event year

Funding is provided without legal entitlement within the scope of available budget funds.
