The Bavarian Cybercrime Central Office is responsible for handling high-profile cybercrime investigations throughout Bavaria.
In cooperation with the relevant specialists from the Bavarian police, it investigates, for example, attacks on important economic sectors or proceedings in the area of organized cybercrime.
In coordination with the Bavarian State Ministry of Justice, the Central Office is also responsible for issues relating to cybercrime that are independent of proceedings. Finally, the employees of the Central Office support the Bavarian judiciary with training and further education in the field of cybercrime.
For particularly complex or technically difficult cases in the field of child pornography and sexual abuse on the internet, the Centre for Combating Child Pornography and Sexual Abuse on the Internet (ZKI) was established on 1 October 2020 as a special organizational unit under the umbrella of the Bavarian Cybercrime Central Office.
On October 1, 2022, the task force "Cyberattacks on companies and institutions" was set up at the Bavarian Cybercrime Unit to further intensify the fight against this form of crime.
Also on October 1, 2022, particularly complex proceedings in the area of cybercrime, for which the regional courts are responsible at first instance, were bundled at Bamberg Regional Court throughout Bavaria. This is intended to speed up proceedings and further increase the quality of jurisdiction with specialist knowledge.
