A transcript evaluation for foreign university degrees is an official certificate issued by the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).

It classifies a university degree from abroad in the German education system. You can use the certificate evaluation as proof of your qualification with authorities, embassies and employers.

The certificate evaluation contains information on the university degree, the course of study, the university and the type and duration of the course of study and confirms the recognition of the university and course of study in the respective country of origin. It also states the level of the German qualification to which your foreign qualification is comparable.

The certificate evaluation is a comparative classification. It does not entitle you to convert foreign degrees into German academic degrees and titles. It also does not entitle you to work in a regulated profession and does not replace the necessary recognition of the foreign professional qualification.

The ZAB only issues a certificate for completed higher education courses.

You create an account on the ZAB website; this requires an account with BundID.
Use the pre-check on the ZAB website to check which documents are required.
Complete the application form and upload the required documents in PDF format.
After submitting the application, you can pay the fees directly online.
As soon as all documents for the application have been submitted and the fee has been paid in full, your application will be processed.
You will be informed by e-mail and via a message in your account when the completed certificate evaluation is ready for download.

The processing time is usually 3 months. A longer processing period is possible due to an increased volume of applications.

The certificate evaluation is particularly suitable for non-regulated professions for use on the labor market. You will need recognition for regulated professions.
