Procedure details

Anyone operating X-ray equipment or an interfering source must instruct their employees in accordance with Section 63 of the Radiation Protection Ordinance. The instruction must include information on

  • the working methods,
  • the possible dangers
  • the safety and protective measures to be applied,
  • the relevant contents of radiation protection law, approval/notification and radiation protection instructions
  • as well as the processing and use of personal data in connection with the determination of the body dose.

This instruction must be given orally. However, the competent authority may, upon request, allow the instruction to be carried out with the aid of e-learning courses or audiovisual media if the operational circumstances so require.

The following requirements are generally necessary for the approval of the instruction:

  • Justification or information on the operational necessity of not conducting the instruction orally / in person
  • Information on the electronic media used
  • Detailed description of the procedure for carrying out the electronic instruction
  • Information on ensuring the success of the training and the possibility of follow-up questions
  • Information on the documentation of the instruction

The application must be submitted digitally to the X-ray Competence Center of the Trade Supervisory Office at the Government of Lower Franconia. It is therefore no longer necessary to submit the application by post or e-mail. The sender also receives confirmation that the application has been successfully submitted.

After checking the submitted documents and, if necessary, requesting further information, the authority decides whether to approve the application and informs the applicant accordingly.
