The INTERREG Bavaria Czech Republic 2021-2027 cross-border cooperation program builds on the EU program Free State of Bavaria - Czech Republic Objective ETC 2014-2020.

The INTERREG Bavaria Czech Republic 2021-2027 program promotes cross-border cooperation in the Bavarian-Czech border region.

The aim of the program is to overcome challenges together and to further develop the common living, natural and economic space in the Bavarian-Czech border region.

Funding is possible in the following five priorities:

  • Priority 1: Research and knowledge transfer
  • Priority 2: Adaptation to climate change and environmental protection
  • Priority 3: Education
  • Priority 4: Culture and sustainable tourism
  • Priority 5: Better Interreg governance

Funding volume: The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is providing the program for the implementation of cross-border projects in the Bavarian-Czech border region with EU funding amounting to EUR 99 million.

Funding area: On the Bavarian side, the funding area includes the districts of Amberg-Sulzbach, Bayreuth, Cham, Deggendorf, Freyung-Grafenau, Hof, Kronach, Kulmbach, Neustadt an der Waldnaab, Passau, Regen, Regensburg, Schwandorf, Straubing-Bogen, Tirschenreuth and Wunsiedel im Fichtelgebirge, the independent cities of Amberg, Bayreuth, Hof, Passau, Regensburg, Straubing and Weiden in der Oberpfalz as well as the districts of Plzeňský kraj (Pilsen district), Karlovarský kraj (Karlovy Vary district) and Jihočeský kraj (South Bohemia district) on the Czech side.

The funding rates amount to up to 80% of the total project costs eligible for co-financing.

There are also funding opportunities for citizen-oriented "small projects" from the so-called small project fund in the 2021-2027 funding period.

Application processing bodies in Bavaria: Government of Upper Franconia, Government of Upper Palatinate, Government of Lower Bavaria

Application processing offices in the Czech Republic: Karlovy Vary Region, Pilsen Region, South Bohemia Region.

Applications are submitted in the so-called "Joint Electronic Monitoring System (Jems)" of the INTERREG Bavaria-Czech Republic 2021-2027 program (see under "Online procedure"). Further information can be found on the program homepage under "Application" (see "Related links"). Please register directly in Jems if you would like to submit an application.

The Bavarian-Czech Monitoring Committee decides on the planning of projects. It usually meets twice a year and decides autonomously and independently on the scheduling of the submitted funding projects. Further, detailed and continuously updated program information can be found on the program's own homepage (for links see "Further links").

Funding principles:

  • At least one Bavarian and one Czech partner must be involved in a project.
  • The partners nominate a lead partner from among their number who bears overall responsibility for project implementation.
  • The project must be thematically assigned to a specific objective of the respective priority (see program document on the program homepage).
  • The project must have a positive impact on the Bavarian and Czech border regions.
  • The project must fulfill at least three of four cooperation criteria:
    • joint elaboration (obligatory)
    • joint implementation (obligatory)
    • joint personnel
    • joint financing

  • Partnership agreement
(can be downloaded from the programme homepage under "Application" - see "Further links")
