The experts or inspectors for motor vehicle traffic must prove their professional suitability by passing an examination. The government of Lower Bavaria is responsible for checking the requirements and registering for the examination. The technical inspection body where the applicant is employed will register the applicant for the examination.

The applicant as an expert or examiner for motor vehicle traffic must meet the following requirements in order to register for the examination:

  • be at least 23 years old,
  • be mentally and physically fit and there must be no facts that make him/her appear unreliable for the work of an expert or examiner,
  • have a driving license for motor vehicles of all categories,
  • have worked for at least one and a half years as an engineer or, if only recognition as an inspector with partial authorization is applied for, as a master craftsman in a technical inspection body for motor vehicle traffic, a motor vehicle company or a motor vehicle factory,
  • have completed at least six months' training in a technical inspection body for motor vehicle traffic,
  • belong to a technical inspection body for motor vehicle traffic,
  • be professionally qualified (proof of professional qualification must be provided in an examination).
