Procedure details

Would you like to register a new vehicle for road use for one day? Then you must apply for a one-day registration at your vehicle registration office at your main place of residence.
A one-day registration is issued for new cars that have not yet had a previous owner, i.e. have not yet been registered. It is the first registration of a vehicle subject to registration. The day registration is always valid for the duration of the day on which the first registration takes effect.

It cannot be applied for vehicles that must have their own license plate but are not subject to registration (e.g. light motorcycles).

If you want to use a vehicle with day registration on public roads, the prescribed license plates for that day do not require any stamp stickers or sticker holders. As the driver, you must display the temporary registration certificate in the vehicle so that it is clearly legible from the outside until the end of the day of initial registration.

As soon as the date of first registration has expired, the vehicle is automatically deemed to be deregistered. You may then no longer drive the vehicle on the road. You do not need to apply for deregistration separately.

  • The vehicle is subject to registration.
  • The vehicle has not been registered before.
  • You have no outstanding fees and expenses from previous registration processes.
  • You have no vehicle tax debts of EUR 5 or more. This also includes late payment penalties, interest and late payment penalties.
