The Bavarian Water Neighborhoods were founded to support the municipalities in their task of caring for the water bodies.
Our streams and rivers are places to live and experience. Of around 100,000 km of waterways, 90,000 km are in the care of local authorities. In order to support them in this task, the Bavarian Water Neighborhoods were founded. They are coordinated by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment.
In Bavaria, the municipalities and water and soil associations are responsible for maintaining the smaller rivers and streams. Carrying this out in an economically and ecologically compatible manner requires knowledge and experience. The "neighborhood" principle has proven its worth. It means that local experts and managers come together to share their experience and knowledge. The Water Neighborhood Days held at district level offer the opportunity to work across disciplines to ensure the good condition of smaller bodies of water. Their aim is to
