Speed limiters; application for approval of companies for installation and testing

Speed limiters may only be installed and tested in motor vehicles by officially recognized vehicle manufacturers, manufacturers of speed limiters or agents of the manufacturers and by workshops authorized by them.

Procedure details

According to § 57 d Para. 4 StVZO, the Federal Motor Transport Authority is responsible for the approval of vehicle manufacturers, speed limiter manufacturers, vehicle manufacturers' representatives and speed limiter manufacturers' representatives for the installation and testing of speed limiters

Recognition is not transferable. It may be linked to ancillary provisions which ensure that the installation and tests are carried out properly.

Recognition is granted if
  1. the applicant or, in the case of legal entities, the persons authorized to represent them by law or the articles of association, can guarantee the reliable exercise of the powers conferred,
  2. the applicant, if he carries out the tests himself, proves that he has the necessary skilled personnel as well as the necessary state-of-the-art testing equipment and other facilities and equipment,
  3. the applicant, if he has the tests and installation carried out by workshops authorized by him, proves that he has ensured, by means of appropriate powers of supervision and instruction, that the workshops meet the requirements of point 2 and that the installation and tests are carried out properly.
