Moors are important carbon dioxide reservoirs. The purpose of the funding is to preserve, optimize and restore peatlands.
A key objective of peatland restoration is to restore the function of peatlands asCO2 reservoirs. At the same time, the habitats of rare animal and plant species are sustainably secured and protected.
Funding is provided for the purchase of land, the creation of renaturation concepts and the implementation of projects for the rewetting of moors.
In addition, the EU is providing the Free State of Bavaria with funds from the ERDF program 2021-2027 (ERDF - European Regional Development Fund) in the area of "Green Infrastructure - Improving Biodiversity", which can be used for moorland protection.
Funding is also provided on the basis of the LNPR in accordance with the relevant EU ERDF requirements.
Local authorities, special-purpose associations, nature parks, landscape conservation associations, nature conservation associations and private owners are eligible to apply.
The measures must be suitable for promoting and restoring natural bog development and peat growth.
Processing takes place within the framework of the Landscape Conservation and Nature Park Guidelines (LNPR).
Applications for the current year are submitted to the district administrative authorities (lower nature conservation authorities). Applications for multi-year projects (max. four years) can also be submitted in coordination with the approval authorities.
The approval authorities are the responsible governments (higher nature conservation authorities).
There are no application deadlines for peatland restoration measures.
Measures are processed quickly, depending on the availability of funding in the respective year.
