Procedure details

The Palace Administration is one of the most traditional administrations in Bavaria. Its origins go back to the Obersthofmeisterstab, one of the four staffs of the Electoral Court Administration. The administration has existed in its current basic structure since November 20, 1918; initially called the Administration of the Former Crown Estate, it has borne its current name since 1932. The administration looks after 45 castles, palaces and residences of outstanding cultural history throughout Bavaria as well as numerous other architectural monuments, mainly from former Wittelsbach ownership. These properties are home to over 100,000 individual works of art and more than 6,000 valuable pieces of furniture. There are also 27 historic gardens and other gardens and 21 lakes, including the largest Bavarian lakes Chiemsee, Starnberger See, Ammersee and the Bavarian part of Lake Constance. The castles attract millions of visitors every year and are a central part of Bavaria's tourism landscape and therefore also an important economic factor.

Organizationally, the palace administration is divided into a main administration with the following departments: Central and Property Department, Museum Department, Building Department, Gardens Department and the Restoration Center. Subordinate to this are 17 branch offices throughout Bavaria and five field offices (Ammersee, Chiemsee, Starnberger See, Kempten, Garmisch-Partenkirchen).
The Palace Administration employs around 1,300 people. The administration is headed by President Hermann Auer.

The opening hours and admission prices can be found on the website of the Palace Administration (see "Further information").
