Procedure details

At the request of the legal guardians, the Bavarian Minister President assumes honorary godparenthood for multiples from triplets who are German nationals or nationals of another Member State of the European Union and have their main residence in the Free State of Bavaria.

Sponsorship is conferred by the presentation of a certificate signed by the Minister President. By accepting the sponsorship, the Free State of Bavaria recognizes the special challenges for the family resulting from a multiple birth.

The purpose of the grant is to cover the special expenses incurred by a multiple birth family after the birth, which are not covered by the usual expenses for securing a livelihood.

The honorary sponsorship does not create any obligations for the honorary sponsor.

The allowance is granted once in the amount of 1,000 euros per multiple birth child. It is a voluntary benefit and is granted irrespective of income within the framework of the budget funds provided. There is no legal entitlement to the grant.

The application to become an honorary godparent must be submitted within one year of the birth of the triplets or multiples.

The children must

  • be German citizens or citizens of another EU member state and
  • have their main place of residence in Bavaria.

The municipality of residence must confirm the existence of the facts.

  • The application must be submitted completely electronically using the online procedure provided (see "Online procedure").
  • The required information must be entered in full.
  • The municipality of residence must be entered so that the existence of the requirements can be checked.
  • The State Chancellery will obtain the necessary confirmations from the municipality.
  • The State Chancellery decides on the application and pays out the grant.
  • Payment is made exclusively in cash to an account specified in the application by the legal guardians.
  • The certificates of honorary sponsorship signed by the Prime Minister are handed over by the mayor of the respective municipality of residence. In individual cases, the Prime Minister may reserve the right to hand over the certificate himself.

There are no costs for the applicant.

The application for honorary sponsorship must be submitted by the legal guardians within one year of the birth of the multiples.

The processing time depends on the circumstances of the individual case.

In principle, an objection or action for performance is possible.
