Support is based on a child's special educational needs, e.g. in the areas of learning, language, emotional and social development, intellectual development, hearing, vision and, if necessary, further support needs such as in the autism spectrum, if special educational needs exist at the same time. Children with multiple special educational needs attend the school that can best meet their needs. A distinction is made between special schools with the following specialisms:
Schools providing special educational support for the above-mentioned special educational needs are support centers with the respective special educational needs. Schools for special educational needs that include the special areas of language, learning and emotional and social development are special education support centers. Classes for the sick can be attached to special schools. The other special schools bear the name of the corresponding general school with the addition "for special educational support" and the indication of the focus.
The special schools include
1. special education centers with classes of the
2. other general education schools for special educational needs,
3. vocational schools for special educational needs.
State special schools and schools for the sick are established and dissolved by statutory order. The school districts are also defined here.
Teachers from special schools work in the mobile special educational services. They support children with special educational needs at mainstream schools so that they can be successfully educated in an inclusive setting.
Mobile special educational support (MSH) is a preventative service for children with special educational needs who are not yet of school age.
Pre-school facilities aim to support children from pre-school age according to their special educational needs and prepare them for school attendance if they do not receive the necessary support in other facilities.
Home schooling can be provided for pupils who are unable to attend school for health reasons or who are placed in youth welfare facilities on the basis of an official order depriving them of their liberty.
