Procedure details

The safety testing of firearms prescribed by the German Firearms Act only makes sense if the ammunition used is also tested. Ammunition intended for trade is approved by the firearms authorities with regard to correct marking, dimensions and compliance with the maximum permissible gas pressure.

The manufacturer is obliged to affix the ammunition test mark issued in the approval to the smallest packaging unit. To ensure consistent quality, manufacturing inspections are carried out by the firing authorities.

If the manufacturer has suitable testing facilities, he can carry out the manufacturing controls himself. In this case, the Proof House monitors the measuring equipment used.

If you have any questions, please contact the responsible Proof House (Munich or Mellrichstadt).

  • Firecracker test; application for a proof test
The Bavarian Proof House carries out both initial and repeat tests on firecrackers and guns.
  • Weapons testing; implementation
The Bavarian Proof House carries out the inspection of firearms for civilian use as part of its sovereign duties. This is purely a safety check, in which each individual weapon is checked by the employees of the Proof House.
