Procedure details

The so-called self-disclosure from the population register is a special form of the right to information in accordance with Art. 15 of the General Data Protection Regulation. It is limited in the exceptional cases in accordance with Section 11 of the Federal Registration Act and by the prescribed deletion periods in the registration system.

You can apply for self-disclosure from the population register in person, in writing or electronically at the responsible office.

There are no fees.

  • Automated retrievals, data confirmations and automated simple population register information are logged for at least 12 months. The logs are deleted at the latest at the end of the calendar year following storage. Data on non-automated simple and extended information from the population register will be deleted after one year.
  • If you move away from a registration authority, it is obliged to delete some of the stored data after various periods of time have expired, §§ 13, 14 BMG. Self-disclosure can no longer be provided for this data after the deadline has expired.

In exceptional cases regulated by law, information about stored data can be refused.
