In order to go hunting in Germany, an official permit (hunting license) is required.
In accordance with Section 15 (5) sentence 1 of the Federal Hunting Act (BJagdG), the first issue of a hunting license is dependent on the applicant having passed a hunting examination within the scope of the Federal Hunting Act.
The hunting examination is offered in Bavaria on four dates per year. Currently, when registering for the examination, applicants can specify up to two of the 13 locations in Bavaria where they would like to take the hunting examination.
The examination consists of a written, an oral and a practical part. The written part of the examination is carried out using the multiple-choice method; the examination authority selects questions from the question catalog published by the supreme hunting authority with sample solutions.
Candidates who have failed parts of the examination have the opportunity to repeat the failed oral or practical part twice within two years of passing the written part.
The Bavarian State Office for Weights and Measures, as the central hunting and falconry examination authority, is responsible for registration for the examination.
Detailed information on registration, exam content, exam locations, dates and the questionnaire for the written part can be found under "Further links".
Examination requirements
In Bavaria, the requirements for taking the hunter's examination are governed by the Hunting and Falconry Examination Regulations (Jäger- und Falknerprüfungsordnung - JFPO). Applicants must be at least 15 years old and have demonstrably completed theoretical and practical training.
The fee for the national examinations is 280 euros.
Registration for the hunter examination must be made no later than 4 weeks before the written examination date.
The hunting license documents the basic authorization to hunt. Hunting with raptors or falcons requires a falconry hunting license. You must apply for the issue and renewal.
