Procedure details

Teacher training is divided into three phases. After a theoretically sound, academic education in the subject sciences (including subject didactics) and educational sciences at the university, two years of practical school training take place as part of the preparatory service at the Studienseminar and at the placement schools.

The Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs assigns the trainee teachers to an administrative district. The responsible government then determines the placement school and allocates them to a Studienseminar. In principle, any special education center with a corresponding focus can be the place of assignment. The preparatory service begins each September with the new school year.

The preparatory service is divided into two phases, each lasting 12 months.

The first phase of training includes

  • Independent teaching (8 hours per week),
  • practical training in the supervising teacher's classroom,
  • independent observation (8 hours per week) and
  • seminar events as part of the study seminar (10 hours per week).

Trainee teachers attend the study seminar on two days of the week. The seminar events take place at the Studienseminar or at schools in the Studienseminar district. On the remaining three days of the week, the student trainees work at their placement school (lessons, practical training, work shadowing).

The second stage of training comprises

  • independent teaching (16 hours per week) and
  • 10 hours of seminars within the framework of the Studienseminar.

The preparatory service ends with the passing of the second state examination.
