If you are a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) and want to strengthen your competitive and innovative capacity in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT), you can receive funding under certain conditions.
The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funds projects to strengthen innovative capabilities in the field of information and communications technologies. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can carry these out with partners from science and industry.
As an SME, you can receive funding for the eligible project-related costs for high-risk projects, either alone or together with collaborative partners, if the planned research and development projects clearly go beyond the state of the art. The project should fit into at least one of the following subject areas:
The projects should be implemented in particular in one or more of the following domains:
As an SME, you can generally receive funding of up to 50 percent of the eligible project-related costs.
Universities, research and scientific institutions or comparable institutions in the non-economic sector can receive individual funding of up to 100 percent of the project-related costs or expenses as a collaborative partner of an SME.
Universities and university hospitals can receive a project lump sum of 20 percent for non-economic research projects in addition to the eligible expenses financed by the BMBF.
The results of the funded project may only be used in Germany or in the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.
There is no entitlement to the grant. Rather, the granting authority decides on the basis of its dutiful discretion within the framework of the available budget funds.

You submit your application for funding for a project to strengthen the innovative capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as follows:

You can submit your project outline at any time to the commissioned project management organization of the BMBF (DLR-PT). The annual deadlines are 15.04. and 15.10. The last deadline is 15.10.2025. The submission deadline is not a cut-off date. However, project outlines received late may not be considered until the next following deadline.
If you have an idea for the (further) development of innovative technologies in information and communication technologies (ICT), you can be funded under certain conditions. The aim is to transfer knowledge from research to industry.
If you are a small or medium-sized enterprise and want to carry out a new, unfinished project in the field of artificial intelligence, either alone or with partners from science and/or industry, you can receive funding under certain conditions.
If you are a programmer who wants to develop open source software as a creative solution to a social problem, you can be funded to do so under certain conditions.
If you are a small and medium-sized enterprise and want to carry out a new research and development (R&D) project in the field of photonics or quantum technology, either alone or with partners from science or industry, you can receive funding.
