Student counseling at the state universities, universities of applied sciences/technical universities and art colleges is provided by central counseling offices as well as by the student counseling service at departmental level. The universities also have a representative for students with disabilities. He or she is available as a contact person for prospective and current students with disabilities, is involved in providing pre-study, study-related and pre-vocational advice and, if necessary, works to compensate for disadvantages in the studies and examinations of disabled students.

From time to time, careers advisors from the employment agencies are also available in the rooms of the central advice centers to provide information on career-relevant aspects of an academic education.
The Student Advisory Service is aimed specifically at students of a particular faculty throughout the course of their studies. Its tasks include advising on study options and study techniques in the respective subject area. Selection and attendance of courses (curriculum design), study success checks, exam preparation, options for postgraduate and supplementary studies.
International students are comprehensively supported and advised by the International Offices at the universities.
