Procedure details

Founded in 1993, the Bayerische Theaterakademie is a teaching and learning theater that offers courses in the performing arts in cooperation with Munich's universities. The Theaterakademie is based at the Prinzregententheater in Munich.

Students of the Theaterakademie are enrolled at the university that offers the course in cooperation with the Theaterakademie.

  • Cultural Journalism (Master of Arts)

With the Academy of Fine Arts Munich:

  • Stage Design and Stage Costume (undergraduate diploma course)

With the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich:

  • Dramaturgy (Master of Arts)

Depending on the course and university, the university examinations lead to the academic degrees Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Master of Music or Diplom.

Students on these courses work with experienced directors on productions. The courses on offer are supplemented by workshops, symposia etc. Performance venues are the Prinzregententheater (Großes Haus, Akademietheater, Gartensaal, Akademiestudio, Opernstudio) and the Reaktorhalle of the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts. In addition, guest performances are given in cooperation with theaters inside and outside Bavaria. The Bayerische Theaterakademie regularly takes part in theater meetings and festivals.

The qualification requirements with aptitude test and aptitude procedure are based on the conditions of the university at which the students are enrolled. For the acting and directing courses, a general higher education entrance qualification is required, for the Master's courses a corresponding first academic degree. Exceptions are possible in the case of special talent - if provided for in the qualification regulations.

Administrative fees are charged by the respective universities for the period of study. Tuition fees are not charged.

The course begins in the summer semester for directing, acting and musical theater courses and in the winter semester for all other courses.
