Under certain conditions, mothers and fathers are entitled to medical rehabilitation services from their health insurance provider - alone or with child(ren) in the form of mother/father/child measures.
Medical rehabilitation for mothers and fathers is inpatient medical treatment for mothers and fathers whose health is under strain or at risk due to their family situation. It is possible for the child to be admitted if this does not jeopardize the success of the treatment. As a rule, children up to the age of 12 can be admitted, in special cases up to the age of 14. There are no age limits for disabled children.
If there is a separate need for treatment for a child/several children, it must be checked whether appropriate treatment of the child to be admitted can be guaranteed in the facility.
The treatment will be carried out in a facility of the Müttergenesungswerk or a similar facility. You will also stay there during the treatment, which is tailored to the needs of mothers and fathers due to their individual stress situation.
The facility will be selected by your health insurance fund, which must take your wishes into account as far as possible.
The measures for mothers/fathers or the mother/father-child measures generally last three weeks. They can be repeated after four years at the earliest. If there is a justified medical need, you can apply for an extension or repeat treatment.
The mother/father/child measure - alone or with child(ren) - must be prescribed by a doctor.
You must apply for the mother/father/child measure - alone or with child(ren) - with your health insurance provider.
The application and the doctor's prescription must be checked and approved by the health insurance fund. If necessary, they will also be checked by the Medical Service.
Insured persons who have reached the age of eighteen pay EUR 10.00 per calendar day to the facility that forwards the payments to the health insurance fund.
Co-payments are only payable up to the individual limit (2% of gross income for living expenses or 1% of gross income for living expenses for chronically ill persons). Please enquire with your health insurance company.
As a rule, medical rehabilitation for mothers and fathers can only be applied for every 4 years, unless an early measure is urgently required for medical reasons.
The health insurance fund must decide on an application for benefits promptly:
