Procedure details

When you receive a fine notice for a traffic offense, you have two weeks to lodge an objection with the administrative authority that issued the fine notice. You can lodge an objection in writing or for the record at the Central Fines Office. Alternatively, the objection can also be lodged online after authentication via BayernID. It is also possible to lodge an objection by telephone. This must be done for the record at the authority that issued the notice. The local court will decide on the admissible objection if the administrative authority upholds the fine notice and the public prosecutor's office does not discontinue the proceedings. The local court in whose district the administrative authority is based has jurisdiction, in certain cases also the local court of the place where the offense was committed or the place of residence of the person concerned.

The addressee of a fine notice can lodge an objection to the fine notice if they do not agree with it. This is only possible for third parties if they have a corresponding power of attorney.

No fees are charged by the state for the service.

In the case of a written declaration, the deadline is only met if the objection is received by the issuing administrative authority before the deadline expires. The statement must be written in German. The objection period for fine notices is two weeks after service of the notice.
