Procedure details

If you are no longer required to pay the license fee and you have previously paid the license fee, you should deregister with the ARD ZDF Deutschlandradio Beitragsservice.

The obligation to pay the license fee does not apply if

  • you move to another contributor,
  • the contributor is deceased,
  • you move or have moved permanently to a care facility or facility for people with disabilities and receive full inpatient care/care,
  • you are moving abroad permanently,
  • you have several homes and are giving up one home completely,
  • other reasons apply.
Note: The broadcasting fee is paid per home, but the fee number is personal. If a registered person moves out, they take the contribution number with them. If the person remaining in the apartment continues to pay for this contribution number, they do not pay for their own apartment, but for the new apartment of the person who has moved out. To ensure that their own home is recorded correctly, the person remaining in the home must re-register the home themselves. Otherwise there is a risk of additional claims.

  • The following documents may be required:
    • if the contributor is deceased: Proof e.g. death certificate
    • if you are moving abroad permanently: Certificate of deregistration from the residents' registration office
    • if you have several apartments and are giving up one apartment completely: Proof e.g. registration certificate

You can deregister online or in writing.

You will need your contribution number to deregister.

There are no costs.

The obligation to pay the contribution ends at the end of the month in which the contributor ceases to occupy the apartment. However, not before the end of the month in which this has been notified.
