A basic district and subject district are formed for each vocational school.
The location of the training company and the chosen training occupation determine which vocational school must be attended.
The government issues an ordinance to determine the school district for each vocational school, which is decisive for the local fulfillment of compulsory vocational school attendance (basic district).
The school district may extend beyond the area of the responsible body (Fachsprengel) in order to form specialist classes structured according to training occupations; a Fachsprengel may be limited to occupation-specific parts of the specialist teaching. The districts of state vocational schools are formed in consultation with the school expenditure provider. The establishment of districts at municipal vocational schools requires the agreement of the school authority.
If a pupil does not wish to attend the Sprengel vocational school responsible for him/her but another vocational school, a guest school relationship must be applied for. In the absence of approval from one of the authorities involved, the government will decide.
At the request of parents or legal guardians, elementary school or secondary schools that are not members of a secondary school network may be permitted to attend another elementary school or secondary school with a different district for compelling personal reasons.
Bavaria has more than 6,000 schools in more than 20 school types. Various websites and authorities help you to find individual schools and publish information about them.
