If you acquire a firearm that requires a permit or transfer it to someone else, you must notify the competent authority within two weeks.
To acquire and possess firearms requiring a permit, you require prior official permission (firearms possession card [with previous entry if applicable] or hunting license). An application for this must be submitted to the district administrative authority responsible for you (see also "Related topics").
As soon as you acquire a weapon requiring a permit, transfer your weapon to someone else or modify your weapon by converting or replacing a significant part, you are obliged to notify the competent district administrative authority within two weeks.
It is recommended that you inform yourself in detail about the regulations of firearms law before submitting your application.
Fees may be incurred for the entry of a weapon in the gun ownership card or the removal of a weapon from the gun ownership card.
Registration: EUR 15.00 for the first weapon plus EUR 7.50 for each additional weapon
Removal: EUR 10 for the first weapon plus EUR 7.50 for each additional weapon
The competent district administrative authority must be notified within two weeks of the acquisition or transfer as well as the modification by conversion or replacement of a significant part.
If you want to take your firearms with you within the European Union (EU) or to Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, you will need a European firearms pass.
If you wish to acquire and possess weapons and/or ammunition that require a permit, you must apply for a permit from the relevant weapons authority.
If you wish to carry alarm, irritant and signal weapons with the approval mark of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in public, you must first apply for a small firearms license.
You must apply for a permit if you want to shoot with a firearm requiring a permit or without a permit. In particular, hunters are exempt when hunting and marksmen when shooting at authorized shooting ranges.
Do you want to permanently export weapons or ammunition from Germany to other countries, permanently import them into Germany or transport them through Germany? Then you need a permit.
If you want to buy and sell firearms or ammunition, you need a firearms trading license.
If you want to manufacture, process or repair firearms or ammunition, you need a firearms manufacturing license.
