Procedure details

Geological outcrops, characteristic landscape elements, caves, springs and former raw material extraction sites are important parts of our geological natural heritage. These so-called geotopes may require legal protection if they are endangered and comparable objects are not available.

The most important geotopes in Bavaria have been recorded in the "Geotope Register of Bavaria". Municipalities, planning and nature conservation authorities are advised on geotope protection issues on the basis of this data collection. The majority of the geotope register has also been available to the interested public via the Internet since 2001 (see "Online procedure").
