Procedure details

After training at university and the subsequent preparatory service (traineeship), state teacher training offers teachers the opportunity to keep up to date with the latest developments in subject-specific science, didactics and pedagogy at local, regional and central level.

Teachers are obliged to attend twelve days of further training within four years. One training day is to be based on a guideline value of approximately 5 hours. In order to fulfill the personal training obligation, events can be attended at all levels of state teacher training as well as from the range of external providers, provided that the respective supervisor has given their consent.

State in-service teacher training in Bavaria is divided into central, regional, local and school-internal in-service teacher training according to scope and sponsorship. In addition, there are further training courses offered by individual local authorities (e.g. the educational institutes in Munich and Nuremberg) as well as events for the further training of religious teachers, which are carried out in cooperation with the churches or religious communities.

Depending on the type of school, regional in-service teacher training is carried out by the governments or the ministerial representatives, while local in-service teacher training is carried out by the state education authorities. It is aimed at teachers in the respective supervisory district or area of responsibility.

The governments are responsible for organizing and designing regional in-service training measures for primary and secondary schools, special schools and vocational schools (with the exception of technical and vocational secondary schools). Half-day, one-day and multi-day events are offered.

Teachers at primary and secondary schools, special schools and vocational schools who act as speakers at state teacher training events outside of working hours can be remunerated for their services in accordance with the applicable fee rates for state teacher training.

Only the form under "Forms" is to be used for invoicing and reimbursement of fees.

The fee is ancillary income that must be declared to the responsible tax office (income tax return/annual wage tax adjustment) and reported to the tax office by the authorizing body in compliance with the legal provisions.

Teachers who act as lecturers in state teacher training courses are deemed to be working on a part-time basis. This does not apply to teachers who are granted relief for their lecturing activities in the form of credit hours.

Lecturer activities that are part of the duties of the main office are not remunerated. In the case of part-time lecturer activities, a fee may be paid by the respective teacher training provider.
