Purpose

The purpose of the grants is to promote investments for recreation, nature experience and leisure activities in the great outdoors.

Object

Hiking trails: Funding is provided for the general refurbishment and signposting of existing, publicly accessible, environmentally friendly and permanent hiking trails in Bavaria for hikers and mountaineers in the great outdoors and for the acquisition and processing of information about these hiking trails.

Accommodation buildings: Funding is provided for measures to ensure environmentally friendly supply and disposal (drinking water, waste water, renewable energy) for accommodation buildings in Bavaria.

Beneficiaries

Hiking trails: Beneficiaries are the Bavarian State Association of German Mountain and Hiking Clubs and its members as well as the head office and the sections of the German Alpine Club.

Accommodation facilities: The recipients are the head office and the sections of the German Alpine Club, the Bavarian State Association of German Mountain and Hiking Clubs and its members, and the Bavarian State Association of Naturefriends of Germany and its members.

Eligible costs

Only investment costs that are necessary for the implementation of the measure to be funded are eligible for funding.

Hiking trails: This includes construction and ancillary construction costs, including trail bridges and small-scale rerouting of hiking trails (if necessary for structural or technical reasons and if the construction method/execution is nature-friendly), expenses for the signposting of hiking trails (if carried out according to standardized specifications), as well as for surveying and GPS documentation. The determination and settlement of eligible costs on the basis of cost benchmarks is generally permissible.

Accommodation buildings: This includes construction and ancillary construction costs for measures for environmentally friendly supply and disposal in existing accommodation buildings or replacement buildings.

Type and scope

The grant is awarded as project funding by way of pro rata financing as a subsidy towards the total eligible expenditure.

The funding rate for hiking trails amounts to a maximum of 50% of the total eligible expenditure, the grants for the general repair and signposting of hiking trails amount to a maximum of EUR 200,000 per year for the Bavarian State Association of German Mountain and Hiking Clubs and for the German Alpine Association. The de minimis limit for eligible expenditure is EUR 2,000 per individual measure.

The maximum funding rate for measures for the environmentally friendly supply and disposal of accommodation buildings is 25% of the total eligible expenditure; the maximum funding amount per individual measure for an accommodation building is EUR 25,000. The maximum funding amount may be exceeded in justified individual cases. The de minimis limit for eligible expenditure is EUR 10,000 per package of measures for an accommodation building.

Hiking trails:

  • General overhaul must go beyond ongoing maintenance
  • Application possible at the earliest every three years or after damage caused by a natural event

Accommodation buildings:

  • Only huts corresponding to DAV category I or hiking huts not suitable for longer-term stays

  • an opinion on whether the relevant provisions of public law have been observed and the interests of environmental protection, nature conservation and water management have been taken into account

The form under "Forms" must be used to apply for funding. The application must be submitted to the responsible government.

Responsible governments:

  • Government of Upper Franconia: responsible for measures of the Bavarian State Association of German Mountain and Hiking Clubs e. V. and the Bavarian State Association of Naturefriends of Germany e. V., in each case including their members
  • Government of Upper Bavaria: responsible for measures of the head office and sections of the German Alpine Club e. V.

Applications for funding from members or sections must be submitted to the responsible government via the respective regional association or head office.

The regional associations or the head office should collect the applications from their members or sections for one year and submit them in a bundle. The applicant and therefore also the recipient of the grant does not change solely as a result of the bundling.

Applications must be submitted before the start of the project. The project may not begin before a decision has been made on the application or before approval of the early start of the project.
