In degree programs with admission restrictions ("numerus clausus"), enrollment requires admission. Pre-registration may be required for degree programs without admission restrictions.
For degree programs with admission restrictions, admission is a prerequisite for enrollment. A distinction must be made between
Only those who have acquired the required university entrance qualification for the chosen course of study by 15 January when applying for a summer semester and by 15 July when applying for a winter semester will be involved in an admission procedure. Anyone who has reached the age of 55 by the application deadline will only be involved in an admission procedure if there are serious academic or professional reasons for the intended course of study, taking into account the applicant's personal situation.
The path to a successful application can vary depending on the desired degree program. The majority of admission-restricted degree programs are coordinated via the Dialogue-Oriented Service Procedure (DoSV). The DoSV is carried out by the Foundation for University Admissions on behalf of the universities and coordinates the application process for degree programs with local admission restrictions. In addition, the central allocation procedure (ZV) for the nationally restricted degree courses in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and pharmacy is integrated into the DoSV.
DoSV
The DoSV begins with the application phase. If you would like to apply for a participating degree program, you must register in the DoSV application portal. Once you have registered, you can apply for up to twelve study programmes and then prioritize them, i.e. put your applications in the order that suits you best. During the coordination phase, the university will determine whether you can receive an offer of admission. This is followed by the coordinated succession phase. During this phase, vacant study programs are allocated to applicants who have not yet been able to gain admission. The allocation of study places ends at the end of the coordinated succession phase.
ZV
The application procedure for medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and pharmacy is carried out centrally via hochschulstart. In order to apply, you must first register on the DoSV application portal. After registering, you will be redirected to the "AntOn" (= Application Online) portal via the respective study program. There you must complete your application form. You must then send the printed application with the required application documents to hochschulstart by post.
Documents
In the ZV, the application for admission must be received electronically via the web portal of the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung within the application deadline. The printed and signed application form, together with the documents required as proof, must also be received by the Foundation by this time. Otherwise, the Foundation determines the form of the applications and the documents required as proof and their form. In the case of locally admission-restricted degree programs, the respective university decides on the documents to be submitted and their form.
If there are local admission restrictions in individual cases and the degree programs are not coordinated via the DoSV, please contact the university in question for more information on how to apply.
Studies up to the first professionally qualifying degree (Bachelor) and studies in a consecutive degree program leading to a further professionally qualifying degree (Master) are generally tax-free.
Further information can be obtained directly from the student advisory service and other responsible offices (admissions, enrolment, student office, etc.) at the respective university.
For degree programs with nationwide admission restrictions, the application for admission
must be received by the Foundation for University Admissions (cut-off deadlines).
For degree programs with local admission restrictions, the application for admission must be received by the university by 15 January for the summer semester and by 15 July for the winter semester (cut-off deadlines).
The universities may set pre-registration deadlines for applicants for degree programs that are not subject to admission restrictions. It may be stipulated that if the pre-registration deadline is missed, enrolment for the relevant degree program will be denied, unless the applicant is not at fault for missing this deadline.
